A pure gold replica of Lionel Messi’s left foot, valued at $5.25 million, was unveiled in Tokyo. The 25-kilogram statue was created by renowned Japanese jeweler Ginza Tanaka to commemorate the player’s achievements. Tanaka is also offering a “Golden Foot Plate” for the modest price of $94,500 (limited to 50 pieces) and a miniature version of the solid-gold foot for $42,000 (limited to 100 pieces). Part of the profits from the sales will go to Messi’s foundation, which will use them to support children in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan two years ago.
