A Masterpiece by Jean-Michel Basquiat Sells for $110.5 Million

Untitled, a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat from 1982, sold for a record $110.5 million at Sotheby’s auction in New York, making it the highest priced artwork sold by any American artist. The piece was purchased by Japanese entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa, founder of a Japanese fashion website. The Japanese billionaire revealed himself to be the buyer through a post on his Instagram account.

  1. There’s like 3 parties involved in this article I’d like to have seen beaten to a pulp.

    The artist that created that s**t – For like under $200.- worth of materials AND time spent working on it.
    The company that sold that s**t – For an insulting $110’500’000.- to look at.
    The individual that bought that s**t – Instead of donating the money somewhere worthwhile.

    Honestly… At some point they should just make it illegal for something like THAT to be sold at SUCH a price unless most if not all the money goes towards a widely accepted charity.

    Jeesh… This is so bad I’ve seen captive Animals painting more appealing pictures and those were already on the other end of the art spectrum of what I’d hang into my room yet alone pay a dime for.
