A new museum celebrating the life and legacy of Yves Saint Laurent is set to open in Marrakesh, the city that inspired his discovery of light and color.
Designed by French architectural duo Olivier Marty and Karl Fournier of Studio KO, the museum will span 4,000 square meters and feature storage for approximately 4,000 pieces.
“When Yves Saint Laurent first discovered Marrakech in 1966, he was so moved by the city that he immediately decided to buy a house here, and returned regularly. It feels perfectly natural, fifty years later, to build a museum dedicated to his oeuvre, which was so inspired this country.” said Pierre Bergé, President of the Fondation Pierre Bergé-YSL.
Located on Rue Yves Saint Laurent, the museum will open its doors to the public on October 19, coinciding with the inauguration of another museum dedicated to the designer in Paris.
The museum will feature a bookshop, research library, auditorium and a cafe.
