An extremely rare movie poster from the Boris Karloff horror classic, The Mummy, could become the most expensive in the world after it goes up for auction at Sotheby’s. Designed by Karoly Grosz, Universal’s advertising art director, the poster is expected to fetch anywhere from $1 million to as much as $1.5 million. Only three original posters are believed to still exist, the last time one was sold was in 1997 for $453,500, breaking the record for most expensive movie poster. Bidding for this exceptionally well-preserved poster ends on Oct. 31, just in time for Halloween.
*UPDATE: It was expected to bring $1.5 million but failed when its reserve of $950,000 went unmet.
