A large Banksy painting “Devolved Parliament”, in which chimpanzees replace politicians in the House of Commons, has been sold for £9,879,500 (approx. $12.2 million) at the London auction house Sotheby’s.
“Record price for a Banksy painting set at auction tonight,” he wrote. “Shame I didn’t still own it.” Banksy reacted on Instagram with a post quoting art critic Robert Hughes about the value of artworks.
Painted in 2009 the 13 feet painting was previously on display at “Banksy vs. Bristol Museum” exhibition which attracted 300,000 visitors. Earlier this year, the painting made an appearance again at the Bristol Museum on March 29, the original day the U.K. was meant to leave the EU.
