This 1967 Jaguar Pirana by Bertone is one of the weirdest concepts ever produced. Originally a brand-new 4.2-litre 2+2 from Jaguar, it was designed by the legendary Marcello Gandini and commissioned by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph for the 1967 London Motor Show at Earl’s Court. It’s not the only one-off Jaguar coachbuilt concept to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale either. Back in 2015, the 1952 Jaguar XK120 Supersonic by Ghia, one of only three built with Giovanni Savonuzzi’s striking coachwork, sold for just over $2 million at the very same auction house. The concept will be offered at auction without reserve during RM Sotheby’s Monterey event from August 15–17 in Monterey, California.
At the interior Bertone extensively recreated the interior with a new integrated center console, redesigned seats, plenty of leather , switches and gauges.
Over the years the unique coupe has gone through several conversions, from a manual transmission to automatic before being brought back to its original specification. The fully-functional Pirana never saw production and was only exhibited to the public on rare occasions.
Unfortunately, RM Sotheby’s has not publicized an estimated value for the car.
