This extremely rare pair of 1972 Nike “Moon Shoes” will be up for grabs on the auction block, as part of Goldin Auctions’ annual holiday auction. Based on the original design by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, the shoes are handmade featuring the brand’s iconic waffle outsole, made from an experiment using his wife’s waffle iron.
Provided by Nike expert and collector Lindy Darrell, the rare shoes are in remarkable condition.
According to the listing, this pair has no tagging as it was custom-made and is an approximate size between 8 and 9.
Only a limited amount of the original-style Nike Moon Shoes were ever made, earlier this year in July 2019, one of the original pairs sold for a whopping $437,500, a record price for sneakers sold at auction.
If you’re looking to own a piece of Nike history, bidding for the Nike Moon Shoe and accompanying Oregon jersey starts at $100,000 on December 7 via Goldin Auction’s website.
