A full skeleton of a Gorgosaurus that roamed the Earth about 77 million years ago will be sold at Sotheby’s Natural History sale on July 28 in New York. Excavated in 2018 in the Judith River Formation near Havre, Montana, the well-preserved Gorgosaurus specimen was a smaller but perhaps faster and more vicious cousin of Tyrannosaurus rex. Measuring nearly 10 feet tall and 22 feet long, the Gorgosaurus is the only skeleton of its kind available for purchase by a private collector, the auction house said. Expected to fetch between $5 million and $8 million, the fossil will be on display for public viewing at Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries in New York, from July 21–28.
