Scotch aficionados are used to shelling out for a top-notch single malt, but even the most seasoned connoisseur might do a double-take when they spot the price tag on Macallan’s latest creation. In honor of its 200th anniversary, The Macallan is unveiling the Time: Space Collection, featuring an 84-year-old whisky—the oldest ever released by the brand. This special release highlights the brand’s concept of time travel through whisky-making, presented in custom-designed decanters that combine advanced engineering with traditional craftsmanship.
The first release, Time: Space, features a dual-chamber vessel containing The Macallan’s oldest whisky at 84 years old alongside a new single malt from the brand’s latest distillery. The Macallan is setting a jaw-dropping price of $190,000 for the Time : Space bottle, and there will only be 200 bottles available.
Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whisky Maker, The Macallan, commented: “It was an absolute privilege to be able to reach back in time and select stock from the 1940’s to honor and celebrate our 200 year anniversary.
The second release, Time: Space Mastery, is a distinctive single malt that reflects 200 years of history with its intricate layers of complexity. Both releases embody The Macallan’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and creativity, while emphasizing a profound connection to nature. Mastery, priced at $1,500, is the more accessible option.
It comes in a halo-shaped bottle reminiscent of the record-holding decanter and is presented in a bright red box adorned with 200 origami thorns.
“As a Whisky Mastery Team, our roles are unique in the sense that we get to time travel—selecting whisky from the past crafted by our predecessors, whilst simultaneously laying down casks for future generations of whisky makers and consumers,” said Kirsteen Campbell, master whisky maker for Macallan, in a statement. “To nose, taste and select whisky created over eight decades ago is an exceptionally rare occasion in the life of a whisky maker and one which I will treasure.”
Designed to symbolize nature’s enduring presence and the concept of time travel, these creations merge the past and future in the Time: Space Collection. The Macallan’s Time: Space will be available for purchase by invitation only through The Macallan.
