Pre-Basel 2014 – Swiss manufacturer Zenith is giving us a preview of the upcoming Zenith Pilot Type 20 Grand Feu, ahead of its public debut at Baselworld 2014. Based on the 60mm Zenith Type 20, the case is carved from a block of sapphire, with 18kt white gold lugs, a bezel, and an oversized crown. This is Zenith’s first sapphire case and the largest in watchmaking history. Inside is the Swiss manual-wind Zenith in-house caliber El Primero 5011K, featuring 19 jewels, a frequency of 18,000 vph, and a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is made of Grand Feu enamel with blued hands. The novelty is completed by a black strap with an 18kt white gold ardillon buckle. Unfortunately, the Zenith Type 20 Grand Feu will be available as part of an extremely limited edition, with only 10 pieces being made.
