Inspired by the world’s fastest plane, the SR-71 Blackbird, Italian design studio Icona is officially taking the wraps off its brand new titanium supercar at Salon Privé in England at the beginning of September. It has a unique titanium and carbon-fiber body, while under the hood is a supercharged V8 6.2-litre from the Corvette ZR1 producing 661bhp and 605lb ft, good for 0-62mph in 2.8secs and 0-124mph in 8.6secs, and topping out at 220 mph.
The interior features a 12.3-inch configurable display, racing seats, an abundance of carbon fiber and black Alcantara leather.
“As different ideas came together, the most challenging design issue which we faced was how to create a balance between power and beauty. When you’re trying to create a feeling of aesthetic harmony, you risk creating too many sweet lines, which decreases the feeling of power. On the other hand, if you make too much of the powerful features which are necessary to a super sports car such as its cooling cutouts and blades which manage the air flow, they become graphically too dominant, and this makes the car less beautiful. The way we found the right balance was usually by looking for the greatest simplicity” said design director Samuel Chuffart.
The Vulcano Titanium will set back customers a cool €2.5 million ($2.78 million). Any takers for this Icona Vulcano?
