Liverpool designer Stuart Hughes and Munich model maker Robert Gulpen teamed up to build something wild: a Bugatti Veyron Diamond Edition at 1:18 scale that weighs about 7 kg and is cast in solid 24-carat gold and platinum. Up front sits a 7.2-carat flawless diamond where the grille should be, and yes, the steering, doors and bonnet all actually work. The whole build took two months, and only three will ever exist.
The price? £2 million, roughly $2.9 million back then. For that money you get the car, a certificate of authenticity, a glass display case, an aluminium case and a photo record of how it was made.
