Nashville design house Rock Royalty just took the concept of a fancy guitar and pushed it completely off the cliff. Their latest build starts with a Fender Telecaster and ends somewhere around $85,000. The body is wrapped in natural black alligator skin sourced from Louisiana, the kind of leather you expect on a cowboy boot or a private jet seat. Then things get silly. Black diamonds set into the hardware and volume knobs machined from sterling silver finish the look.
Is it playable? Technically yes. A Telecaster is a Telecaster and the bones here are solid. But nobody buying this thing is planning to sweat on it at a bar gig. This is wall art for someone with a recording studio and a tax problem.
The custom shop behind it is based in Nashville, which makes sense. Music City has seen every kind of guitar excess over the years, and this one still manages to raise eyebrows.
Rock Royalty has not announced how many they plan to build. At this price point they probably do not need to make more than one or two.
