The Car of My Dreams – An iconic 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster goes under the hammer tomorrow, Thursday, January 16, at the RM Auctions sale in Arizona. Finished in its original, rare, and beautiful Light Blue (DB 334) with a red leather interior, this beauty is powered by a 2,996cc overhead-camshaft inline six-cylinder engine and a four-speed manual transmission. It features coil-spring independent front suspension, a coil-spring single-point swing axle rear suspension, and servo-assisted drum brakes. This iconic model has been fully restored to factory specifications and comes complete with color-matched two-piece fitted luggage, a rare Becker Mexico short-wave radio, and the original owner’s manual. This example (Chassis no. 198.042.8500244) is expected to fetch between $900,000 and $1,200,000.
*UPDATE: This Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster was sold for $1,045,000

The 300SL wasn’t Mercedes-Benz’s first legendary roadster — two decades earlier, the marque built the 1937 540K Spezial Roadster, one of just 406 ever produced and later sold at auction for $9.68 million.
