Italian Medieval Castle Turned Into Authentic Hotel

S. Stefano di Sessanio

S. Stefano di Sessanio, a fortified medieval village high in the Abruzzo mountains—about a two-hour drive from Rome—sits at 1,250 meters above sea level. The design firm Oriano Associati Architetti, working with local organizations, led a project to preserve and revitalize Santo Stefano as an albergo diffuso (a dispersed village hotel) while safeguarding its architectural heritage. The Sextantio Albergo Diffuso offers distinctive guestrooms, and its restaurant serves a wide selection of regional dishes made with fresh ingredients sourced from nearby fields. Browse the gallery below and let the photographs tell the story.
