So here it is, the Bugatti Chiron. Fastest and most powerful production car the world has ever seen. No big deal, right? Under the hood sits a heavily reworked version of the Veyron’s 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16, now pushing an unprecedented 1,500 bhp (1,503 kW). Torque? A ridiculous 1,600 Nm on tap between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. Breathtaking barely covers it.
Now the numbers, because this is where it gets silly. 0 to 62 mph in under 2.5 seconds. 124 mph in less than 6.5. And 186 mph comes up in under 13.6 seconds. Oh, and the top speed? Electronically limited to 261 mph. Limited. As in, it could go faster and Bugatti said no.
Only 500 will ever be built, hand-assembled at the old factory in Molsheim, France. The price? €2.4 million, give or take $2.6 million depending on the exchange rate gods. This is not really a car anymore. It is a statement.
And because no hypercar fantasy is complete without matching wristwear, Bugatti’s design obsession has spilled into watchmaking. Case in point, the Parmigiani Fleurier Bugatti Type 390 concept watch, built with the same madness as the car itself.
Funny thing is, we all saw this coming. The teaser video had been floating around for months, giving fans little glimpses of what would eventually become the Chiron. The wait was worth it.
