Renowned bike builder Roland Sands teamed up once again with BMW Motorrad to create a new bespoke R18 Dragster, a unique masterpiece built around the impressive 2-cylinder Big Boxer.
Sporting a two tone metallic blue and white paint finish the final product is impressive, Roland Sands and his team took the R 18 completely apart and gave the bike an entirely new shape, modified the frame and removed the rear suspension for drag racing.
“My father was a dragster racer,” says Roland Sands. He grew up surrounded by unique bikes – and later rode in races himself for 10 years. That inspired him to “reduce the bike to the essentials, to shape it to go fast on straight roads.”
Other highlights of the blue beast include carbon cylinder head covers, a headlight from the original R 18 with a milled aluminum bezel from the new RSD Design Collection, hydraulic front brake and clutch master cylinders, and machined RSD rims wrapped in Dunlop drag tires.
The seat has been built from scratch and is an RSD custom seat by Saddlemen, while the standard exhaust has been replaced with a hand fabricated.
