IWC Schaffhausen has rolled out a special edition timepiece in collaboration with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, released for the incoming 2025 Formula 1 season: the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff. This watch, recently sighted on the wrist of team CEO Toto Wolff, is meant to withstand the powerful forces and vibrations that mechanized vehicles in motorsport undergo. Showcased in a sleek black and Petronas green design, this limited-edition timepiece pushes shock protection to new limits with the patented IWC SPRIN-g PROTECT® system.
Inside is the IWC-manufactured 32101 caliber with an automatic winding system beating at 28’800 VPH (4 Hz) and power reserve of 120 hours. According to the press release, “In impact tests conducted at the Cavendish Laboratory at the Cambridge University, protected movements have survived forces from accelerations in excess of 30,000 g.
The black dial features a grainy, technical texture—stamped into the brass base with a special tool—complemented by newly designed triangular black hands with Super-LumiNova tips and a floating outer ring with a minute scale.
A sapphire case back, featuring Toto Wolff’s signature, reveals the blackened plates, bridges, and oscillating mass, seamlessly integrated into the watch’s all-black aesthetic. The watch comes with an integrated Petronas green rubber strap, complemented by an additional black rubber strap with a textile inlay.
With a price tag of $102,000, the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff × Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team (ref. IW356201) is a limited edition of just 100 pieces. Fore more info be sure to visit IWC’s website.
