Louis Vuitton, led by Jean Arnault, has unveiled the second timepiece in its five-part collaboration with some of the most renowned independent watchmakers. This installment, the LVKV-02 GMR 6, is a travel watch created in partnership with Kari Voutilainen and inspired by the 2024 Escale redesign.
Using Louis Vuitton’s Escale case, which is made of tantalum and measures 40.5 x 12.54 mm, along with carefully positioned platinum accents on the bezel, case back, lugs, crown, and buckle, this GMT model showcases Kari Voutilainen’s renowned traditional watchmaking.
Inspired by historic stained-glass windows, each watch’s design features 28 vivid colors and takes 32 hours of painstaking hand painting. Voutilainen’s workshop created a hand-guilloché design at the center of the gold dial, honoring Louis Vuitton’s famous “Damier” motif, which was engraved using equipment that dates back to the 18th century.
The mainspring barrel features a stunning miniature painting by Maryna Bossy of La Fabrique des Arts Louis Vuitton. This white gold ratchet appliqué is the result of 16 hours of dedicated hand-painting, using 27 colors, and endured five kiln sessions with a total of eight hours of firing.
The LVKV-02 GMR 6 features a manual-winding Kari Voutilainen GMR 6 movement with two escapement wheels, offering a 65-hour power reserve and a slower 18,000vph ticking rate, all crafted and finished in the Voutilainen atelier. Two strap options are available for the LVKV-02 GMR 6 watch: an anthracite alligator leather strap with a platinum pin buckle and a black leather lining, and a gray fabric strap lined with brown leather.
Priced at €550,000 (roughly $600,000), this model is limited to five pieces and comes in a custom Louis Vuitton trunk.
