Stuart Hughes, a designer based in Liverpool, has built what he calls the world’s most expensive smartphone. The iPhone 5 Black Diamond took nine weeks to make and the spec sheet reads more like a jewelry counter than a phone. The body carries around 135 grams of 24ct gold. Hughes then set 600 stones into the device and 53 of them sit inside the Apple logo alone. The home button is gone, replaced by a 26ct flawless black diamond. The screen is sapphire glass, which Hughes pointed out was an obvious choice for a build like this. The phone was commissioned by a Chinese businessman who already owned the black diamond and wanted something worthy of it.
The final price came to £10 million, or about $15.3 million. Yes, for an iPhone 5.
