Yamaha and the French fashion house Hermès joined forces to create a one-off version of the VMAX, combining Yamaha’s powerful motorcycle engineering with Hermès’ leatherworking skills. The bike was unveiled at a motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany.
Hermès artisans covered many of the VMAX’s non-mechanical parts in Skipper buffalo leather, including the fuel tank, seat, mudguards, headlight cover, exhaust silencers and grips. Brushed aluminium mirrors, the meter case and exhaust components add a crisp contrast to the leather finish.
The project gave Hermès craftsmen room to bring together motorcycle mechanics and traditional leatherwork. The result is a distinctive VMAX with a strong sculptural shape and a finish that feels closer to a tailored luxury piece than a standard production bike.
This was not the first collaboration between the two brands. Yamaha and Hermès had previously worked together on a Virago project around fifteen years earlier
