For the first time, Armani Eyewear is working with exotic leathers and precious metals, and the opening move is a bold one. The brand’s new aviator frame is built from 22-karat gold and decorated with Indian water buffalo horn. It comes with dark green polarized lenses and a brown leather case, though the price will stop some people in their tracks. This pair runs $1,350.
The rest of the collection is easier on the wallet. There are metal frames finished in leather for $375 and plastic frames with stingray details for $365. Gold sunglasses are not for everyone. Neither is buffalo horn. Armani clearly knows this and is not pretending otherwise, which is kind of the point.
