Lanvin has never been a house that shouts. Its campaigns tend to whisper, and the new Fall/Winter 2013 film is no exception. Six men, six faces, one long unguarded conversation about love, about cool and whatever else came up between takes.
Abiah Hostvedt, Miles Langford, Callum Wilson, Tara Ferry, Francois Verkerk and Gustav Swedberg sit for the camera the way men do when they forget it is there. That is the trick of the whole film. Nothing performed, nothing styled to within an inch of its life, just the quiet confidence Alber Elbaz has always cut into his clothes.
Steven Meisel photographed the campaign. The pairing feels inevitable. Meisel has spent decades making fashion look like life rather than theater, and Lanvin gave him exactly that canvas. It is a rare thing, a campaign that sells nothing and somehow sells everything.
