Lamborghini has delivered the unexpected at the 2014 Paris Motor Show with the debut of the Asterion LPI 910-4. As the brand’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology demonstrator, the Asterion—named after the mythical Minotaur, half-man and half-bull—perfectly blends raw power with futuristic innovation.

Under the hood, the Asterion features a mid-mounted 5.2-liter V10 engine borrowed from the Huracán, producing 602 bhp. When paired with a trio of electric motors, the total output reaches a staggering 910 hp (669 kW). This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds, reaching a top speed of 199 mph. Crafted by Lamborghini Centro Stile, the design is a sophisticated homage to the brand’s legendary DNA and heritage.

“Lamborghini is always looking ahead, investing in new technologies and setting new benchmarks, delivering the unexpected,” stated Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

The Asterion is a glimpse into the future of the brand. Does this hybrid powerhouse live up to the Lamborghini legacy?
