Tom Ford has decided to let go of his ranch outside Santa Fe, and the listing price tells you something about what he put into it. Cerro Pelon Ranch is asking $75 million.
The house itself was designed by Tadao Ando, the Japanese architect known for working with concrete and light. Here he built something that sits on reflecting pools, so from certain angles the whole structure looks like it is hovering over water. Horse people will find plenty to like too. There is an eight-stall barn, riding areas both inside and out, two guest houses, staff quarters and even a landing strip for anyone flying in.
The land is the real story though. The ranch covers 20,662 acres in the Galisteo Basin, close enough to Santa Fe that you can drive into town in minutes. Hollywood noticed the place long ago. Lonesome Dove, All the Pretty Horses, Cowboys and Aliens, Wild Wild West, 3:10 to Yuma, The Missing and Thor were all shot here.
