BEAMS Japan teamed with Seiko and introduced a bespoke historic reprint model, the 1965 Dive Watch. Famously worn by Kiyoshi Atsumi who played Tora-San in the movie Otoko wa Tsuraiyo, this is Seiko’s first ever diver’s watch made in 1965 at a time when watches with high levels of water resistance were not widely available.
Housed in Seiko’s Ever-Brilliant Steel, the world’s most corrosion resistant steel, the case is “only” 39.9mm, making it comfortable on the wrist. The case back is decorated with a motif of a dolphin with a hat and a suitcase, the iconic attire worn by Tora-san.
Manufactured by Shizukuishi Luxury Watch Studio, the model is powered by 8L35 mechanical caliber beating at 28,800 vibrations with 50 hours of power reserve.
Limited to just 300 units the redesigned BEAMS x SEIKO 1965 Prospex is currently available for pre-order on BEAMS’ website (translated) for ¥528,000 (approx. $5,012 USD).
