Mercedes-Benz unveiled its latest visionary study, the Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile (IAA), at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Dubbed a “digital transformer,” the Concept IAA can seamlessly switch between two distinct personalities: a design-focused mode and an aerodynamic mode. This transition occurs automatically once the vehicle reaches 80 km/h (50 mph), or it can be triggered manually via a button, physically altering the car’s shape to optimize airflow and efficiency.
‘The ‘Concept IAA’ continues our series of visionary concept cars,’ explains Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG. ‘The symbiosis of alluring forms showcasing intelligent aerodynamics is an expression of our unique Mercedes-Benz design philosophy.’
Under the hood, the Concept IAA is powered by a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid system delivering a total output of 205 kW (279 hp), with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in luxury, featuring pristine white leather upholstery and intuitive touch-based controls.
