I will admit I did not expect Breitling to quote Batman in a press release. The “Dark (k)night of the oceans” is apparently what they call this watch. Cheesy? A little. Fair? Actually yes, because the thing underneath the nickname is genuinely extreme. It keeps working at 2,000 meters (6,600 ft), chronograph and all, and no other watch on the market does that.
The case is 46mm of carbon-based black steel with a 4mm sapphire crystal up front. There is a helium-release valve on the side for saturation dives, which most owners will never use, and a rubber-molded bezel that turns in one direction only. Inside is the caliber 73, a SuperQuartz movement with COSC chronometer certification. Small seconds at 9, date at 4:30, nothing extra.
The strap is black leather with white edges, finished with a black steel buckle. Only 250 will be made, priced at $5,950 each.
