Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet has tapped once again the Florentine jewellery designer Carolina Bucci to create a limited edition Royal Oak Selfwinding in black ceramic. Limited to just 300 pieces, this timepiece is housed in a 34 mm case and comes with a multicoloured dial refracting light like a prism’s rainbow in the dark of night. The rainbow is achieved through a sapphire plate of micro-structured squares that rests on top of the brass dial plate.
“I wanted to place a rainbow in the most unexpected of places, a little like when you see oil floating on a puddle in a city street. So here you have every color of the spectrum on a canvas that is completely black, which is itself the absence of colour,” Ms Bucci describes.
On the back the watch is finished off with a titanium and sapphire caseback, explosing the Calibre 5800 automatic movement, and inscribed with “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci”.
Part of the model’s 50th anniversary the new AP Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm Carolina Bucci Limited Edition Ref. 77350CE.OO.1266CE.02.A is available for inquiry now in Audemars Piguet boutiques and AP Houses.
