De Tomaso P72: €1.6M of Stunning Performance Ready for the Streets

De Tomaso P72
First unveiled as a concept in 2019, De Tomaso’s breathtaking P72 has now been revealed in its final production form—faithfully echoing the original design with the same timeless elegance and dramatic presence. The P72, which takes its cues from the legendary 1965 De Tomaso P70, which was the result of Alejandro De Tomaso and Carroll Shelby’s collaboration, captures a time when the art of design and engineering was shaped by passion rather than algorithms.

“The P72 was our promise to faithfully revive a historic marque,” says Norman Choi, CEO of De Tomaso Automobili in a statement. “This first production-specification vehicle embodies everything we stand for: a mechanical soul, timeless beauty, and a driving experience that rises above modern convention. It is our echo through time—now made real.”

Crafted from a single, seamless carbon fiber monocoque, the P72’s chassis boosts rigidity and sheds weight—an engineering feat that elevates performance and exemplifies De Tomaso’s dedication to meticulous craftsmanship. Beneath the carbon monocoque, a push-rod suspension with 3-way adjustable damping delivers a classic driving experience tailored to the driver’s preference.

Each of the 72 production cars will be custom-commissioned and crafted with personalized finishes and design options. This model features a striking bright white finish complemented by rose gold striping, mirror caps, accents, and wheels, with the latter echoing the design of the original P70’s iconic rims.

Under the hood, the P72 boasts a hand-assembled 5.0L supercharged V8, crafted exclusively for the ‘P’ platform with bespoke forged internals and a newly developed De Tomaso supercharger—unleashing 700 hp and 820 Nm of torque.

The cockpit is a purist’s dream—completely free of screens, infotainment systems, or digital distractions. Instead, it offers a focused, driver-centric environment where every detail serves a purpose. Hand-stitched white leather and exposed carbon fiber adorn the cabin, while a captivating array of tactile, rose gold-finished machined aluminum gauges graces the dashboard, seamlessly extending to the exposed shifter.

Delivery of the De Tomaso P72 is expected to start later this year. Its exclusivity is clear, even though official pricing is still pending. Rumour has it that the starting price is around €1.6 million ($1.78 million). Bad news: all 72 are sold.
