Hermes does not chase trends and that stubbornness is usually the point. The house has teamed up with French architect and designer Marc Berthier, and the result is the Carre H, a square watch that treats geometry like a discipline rather than a gimmick.
The case is titanium, measuring 36.5mm by 36.5mm, and the balance of it is pure Berthier. Inside beats the Swiss automatic Sowind/Girard-Perregaux caliber GP3200 with a 44-hour power reserve, so the architecture is not just skin deep.
Only 173 pieces will be made. The price is $15,000, which is what happens when a fashion house hires an architect and lets him actually build something.
